Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee

So Kin Kin Pan Mee has arrive in Singapore and after much fanfare, the crowd has finally disperse and waiting time is not that long now. Although I haven't tried the original one (I will soon as I'm heading to KL for work), this is my short review:

Ordered the soup with fishballs, meatballs and 2 pieces of tofu skin, fishballs were bouncy and big. Meatballs were quite small in comparison though. The tofu skin was not bad.

Kin Kin special soup $5

The noodles were bland at first. But after adding their special chilli, the taste of the dish totally changed. Mixed it up with their half boiled egg and it was quite delicious. However I felt the price was quite expensive as I ordered the baby clams set. But at least now people need not drive up to KL to have it.

Kin Kin Noodles (Set 4) $8

Mad For Garlic

Had some vouchers for this place, so decided to check it out. A place where every dish has garlic. So if you hate garlic, I suggest you stay away from this restaurant. If not, do check out this nice restaurant.

Garlic Bread Tower $12.50
Comments: A new and special type of garlic bread. Order it for its uniqueness. Firstly it will come as a tower, then the waiter will mash the special garlic spread with the bread inside. He will then slice it into 4 parts and you can tuck in. It has a nice taste, full of garlic with every bite. More garlic taste than butter taste.

Garlic Snowing Pizza $22.50
Comments: Really love the pizza. It is thin and has a slight sweet taste adding a twist to the normal fan favorite Hawaiian Pizza

Seafood Tomato Pasta $24.60
Comments: Didn't really like the pasta. The sauce was quite bland and had a weird spicy taste to it. Seafood was fresh though.

Overall Review: The dishes here are nice, but can be quite expensive. Did not really try many dishes but I would recommend the garlic snowing pizza.

Roland Restaurant

This post came a bit late. Went to Roland's restaurant for dinner on Mother's Day 2013. Ordered the set menu for 10 pax at $728++. Roland Restaurant' Mdm Cher is the founder of Chilli Crab in Singapore since 1956. Currently the restaurant is run by Roland Lim with his wife, his younger brother and youngest son.

Mother's Day Deluxe Combination

Comments: A mixture of prawn salad, ngoh hiang, longevity bun, lup cheong and 1 more which I can't remember what. A great way to start the dinner with all these food.

Braised Shark's Fin with Sea Treasures

Comments: I'm a supporter of "Stop Eating Shark's Fin" so I din taste the soup.

Steamed Live Goby

Comments: The fish was fresh and meat was tender. Soy sauce wasn't too salty

Peking Duck in Two Styles

Comments: Basically 2 styles means either u can wrap it or u can eat it on it's own. The duck skin is crisp and the meat is tender.

Scallop in Two Styles

Comments: Scallop on a yam ring and seared scallops with broccoli. Both taste awesome. I prefer the yam ring scallop more though

Braised Abalone & Sea Cucumber with Seasonal Vegetables

Comments: Abalone and sea cucumber always come together on a bed of vegetables. Both the abalone and sea cucumber was soft and not that chewy which was nice.

Fried Bun

Comments: "Man Tou" to dip into the Chilli crab sauce. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside

Chilli Crab

Comments: Being the originator of Chilli Crab, this is a must order when u come here. The crab is fresh and the meat is super sweet. The sauce is so nice that you just want to slurp it all up.

Fried Vermicelli

Comments: Actually the duck was suppose to be use to fry the fried rice. However, my dad decided to change to the fried vermicelli. It is very tasty and just right to end a 7 course meal. Taste not too salty

Suckling Pig

Comments: Additional order because my grandma loves suckling pig. It's not the best suckling pig I've eaten though. Was quite disappointed the pig came without legs as that was one of the nicer parts of the pig that I like.

Teochew Yam Paste with Pumpkin
Comments: Not  too sweet not too sticky, it was nice.

Overall Review: After so many years, being the original founder of Chilli Crab, they still serve one of the best Chilli Crab in Singapore. Their mantou is also a must order with their chilli crab gravy. Overall food taste nice, they are also always very busy, so it's best to make a reservation.

Rocku Yakiniku

Came across this place first with my friend when the friendly door hostess pulled me and my friend in to have a look. Went with girlfriend on a separate occasion to have dinner and here's my review.

Ordered the set meal at $58 for 2

Salad as part of the menu. Not bad.

Their Garlic Rice which tastes extremely delicious. I guess they can't really go wrong with garlic fried rice. Not too oily but very fragrant.

The BBQ pit which provides a smokeless environment so you won't have the BBQ smell on your clothings.

The mushrooms that will never get cooked no matter how long you put it on the BBQ. The brown ones gets cooked if put directly on top of the BBQ, but the other 2 with the aluminium can't cook

Scallop Mentaiko
Comments: Scallop cooked nicely and not too salty compared to other scallop mentaiko I've eaten

Assortment of Meat.
Comments: A nice assortment of different type of meats. The meats were fresh and marinated well. Very tasty and when cooked properly just melts in your mouth.

Overall Review: A nice and cosy place for dinner, won't feel smelly due to the bbq smell. The price could be a bit steep for 2 people. It's best to go in a group to share the cost. On certain days they have special events too. You could like their Facebook page below for more info.

Club Street Social

Finally a post on Club Street Social, a small bistro located at club street. This place is always packed with expats since the day of its opening and business has been going really well. Not many places sells such delicious paninis in the business district and not forgetting their all day breakfast menu. They also have special cocktails if you're in the mood. Brought my girlfriend to eat here, although I've eaten here a few times and I ordered what I feel are the best 2 dishes in this place.

Lemongrass Iced Tea $7

Comments: A refreshing drink on a hot day

Lobster Bisque $12

Comments: Actually the lobster bisque does not come in this size. As I knew the chefs, they gave me a small cup as a sample. The lobster bisque is full of flavor. But do remember to mix it up before drinking it because the oil (should be truffle oil) makes it slightly salty. It's nice that there are a few pieces of lobster in it too.

Scrambled Eggs, Fontina and Chives $12 Portobello Mushroom $4

Comments: Many food blogs have claimed this dish to be the best scrambled eggs in Singapore and I'm jumping on the bandwagon to exclaim this too. THIS GOT TO BE THE BEST SCRAMBLED EGGS IN SINGAPORE! Just eating it with the bread is just comfort food, whether you're eating it in the morning, afternoon or night. That's why they offer it in the all day breakfast. I even added a portobello mushroom to go with it as I love mushrooms.

Grilled Ribeye, Caramelized Garlic, Fontina $28

Comments: No one would expect a "sandwich" to taste this fabulous. The big piece of tender ribeye in between 2 toasted pieces of bread, every bite of it taste like heaven. For someone who loves steak, this is a real delight. Not forgetting the melted cheese, which makes it a perfect combination. The best way to eat this would be to eat it like a hamburger.

Nutella Bread Pudding with Ice Cream $12

Comments: To be honest, I'm not a fan of desserts neither am I a fan of chocolate nor is my girlfriend. But this Bread Pudding is super delicious. The bread is served warm, coupled with the vanilla ice cream and the chocolate sauce. Absolutely delicious which makes it a reason to make space for dessert.

Overall review: A few downsides of this place: it is quite small, which makes it difficult to find a seat if it's on a busy day, you might have to take a seat at the cocktail bar or stand around at their tall tables. They do not take phone reservations too. The food is also quite expensive for a normal day lunch. But this is a place that serves GREAT food. More westernized as they serve bread as their main staple food, what most expats love.

Majestic Bay

Saw a food photo of a flaming crab at another food blog and was curious to find out how special the dish was. Invited my buddies for a meal at this restaurant. Read about the review below.

The Entrance

Herbal Tea $4

Comments: Normal tasting and not that sweet.

Crispy Homemade Tofu with Pork Floss $10

Comments:  The tofu has a nice crisp to it. A pity they used the tasteless tofu but the pork floss enhanced the  taste slightly.

Pork, Sweet and Sour sauce, Guava, Mango Strawberries $27 (M)

Comments: Gives a whole new taste to sweet and sour pork. The pork is slightly fat and chewy. The sweetness from the fruits enhances the taste of the meat.

Singapore Chilli Crab $78.40 $1.40/KG

Comments: One of the better chilli crabs I've eaten in Singapore. The sauce is thick, sweet and spicy. The crab was fresh and the meat was really sweet.

Bread $2.80

Comments: Did not expect their buns to be a french loaf. If I knew, I would not have ordered it, as french loaf with chilli crab sauce is not anything special.

Trio Egg Amaranth leaf $24 (M)

Comments: My favorite vegetable dish as I love century, salted and chicken egg. This dish was no different as it was full of eggs and the amaranth leaf was soft. I found myself finishing the dish because it was really good.

Leopard Garoupa $160 $16/KG

Comments: I've learnt never to order such a fancy fish ever again. I did not realise the $16/kg until I saw the menu again. By the time it was too late. When a fish is steamed with soy sauce, it tastes all the same, therefore if you ever go to this restaurant and want to eat fish, just order a normal and cheap one because at that price for a fish, it's really quite a rip-off.

Hot Plate Tofu with Assorted Seafood $24 (M)

Comments: I like how their tofu was sliced quite thick, the prawn and squid were fresh and the mushrooms were a nice addition to dish as a whole. The sauce was nice and slightly spicy.

Bay's Signature "Kopi" Sauce $78.40 $1.40/KG

Comments: The special dish, saving it for the last. But sadly the dish failed to impress in terms of taste. The flame was something special, definitely not seen at anywhere else in Singapore. Firstly, the crab that came out the first round was not fresh, kudos the manager offered to change it, sadly the 2nd one that came out was also not as fresh as the chilli crab. Anyway the taste of the crab is VERY sweet because of the caramelised sauce around the crab. The flame effect actually dries up the meat too, making the crab difficult to eat. Basically I felt it's just a dish that is nice to see but not nice to eat. Do comment if you have eaten this dish before too and let me know what you think.

Overall review: Overall their food is not bad, except for their fish and crab which were quite expensive. Would recommend the chilli crab rather than their signature crab. The service staff were also good
